ALFAMA, LISBON

Alfama is one of Lisbon's historic quarters. The narrow streets and people talk each other window to window where clothes gently sway in the breeze as they dry in the sun give it a unique charm. This is the ideal place to come in the evening to hear fado, Portugal's traditional and most popular music. Its narrow streets, enriched by genuine details such as the planters, the cry of the neighbour, the rush of the children, illustrate in a very own which is really an authentic neighbourhood, which goes far beyond the fate and sardine roast.
